TIPPS Ear Plugs

TIPPS Ear Plugs

TIPPS Ear Plugs Product demonstration video 3D instructional video Marlborough Communications came to us with a very typical issue, they were struggling to get users of their high end tactical ear protection plugs to read the instructions properly. The answer, of course, was an engaging video that could explain the method in an elegant and visual way in a fraction of the time, all the user would need to do is press play! Detailed animatic Our first step was to arrange the old instruction manual in a rough, animated form. This way we could start tweaking the text and setting the timings for different elements, whilst our 3D modellers were busy working to develop all of the 3D content. Working with CAD files Even though the actual product hadn’t been manufactured yet, we were easily able to create a 3D visualisation using Marlborough’s Computer Aided Design (CAD) files from the prototype stage. Using these allowed us to produce extremely accurate models very quickly. A simplified visual style We wanted to ensure that the focus of our animation was on how to correctly use the product, and so we decided to adopt a simplistic white style for all the human elements. This meant that there would be no visual distractions from the message we wanted to portray to the audience. We carefully set the camera focus on the ear plugs so that less important areas were defocused, helping to direct the viewers attention to exactly what they needed to know. Brugal Rum

Brugal Rum

Brugal Papá Andrés Rum 3D Animated Product Visualisation Brugal Papá Andrés 2015 – Making Of Film from Edrington on Vimeo. Product launch video Last year we had the opportunity to work with Edinburgh based agency Guy & Co on a very unique project. Brugal rum were launching the second edition of their exclusive Papá Andrés rum at a series of upmarket locations, the only problem was that the packaging hadn’t gone into production yet. So they came to us to create a 3D product visualisation video that could be used to promote the release. A legendary collaboration The esteemed Spanish designer, Javier Mariscal, was behind the design of the floral pattern adorning the crystal decanter and packaging, which was inspired by the colours of the Dominican Republic. Our mission was to showcase his designs and the beautifully decorated product in the best possible light. Storytelling with light Our idea was to tease the audience, casting light over the product as our camera panned across it to slowly reveal intricate design details. As lighting was a such an intrinsic element of the project, we incorporated lighting in our designs as early on as the storyboarding stage to ensure everything was planned out before animation began. Crystal method Not only are crystal and glass notoriously hard to visualise digitally but they are also difficult to light well because they’re transparent. We overcame these challenges by using a dark background with the light source coming from behind the bottle. This technique created a dramatic silhouette showcasing the bottle perfectly. Complimentary colours The Latin inspired bottle and packaging had a lively and vibrant feel, which we...
Talk to a Doctor

Talk to a Doctor

Talk to a Doctor 3D brand mascot animation Animated explainer video Stadn, a global online medical service based in London, needed our help to find a way to explain their Talk to a Doctor service in a fast and concise way. They knew they wanted a 3D animation but were unsure on a direction to take it, so it was our job to come up with an engaging way to guide the audience through each aspect of their product. Developing the idea The service is an online medical consultancy aimed at English speakers both at home and abroad who need urgent medical advice or may be unfamiliar with a foreign health system. We decided that the best way to explain the service was to recreate it with 3D characters that showed real life examples of how Talk to a Doctor can be used. Heroes and villains Developing the characters was a key part of this project and we worked closely with Stadn to perfect them. We created the persona of ‘Clive’, he represents the target audience and is the centre of our story. We also designed the doctor character,  who embodies the values of the Talk to a Doctor service, and a contrasting ‘bad’ doctor with questionable morals. 3D character design We quickly got started producing a number of appealing design ideas for each character. Minimalism was our main concern in the initial designs, as we wanted to present Talk to a Doctor as a modern, simple and easy to use service without any visual distractions. We developed our designs into a set of matching characters that incorporate the brand colour scheme. Story telling It...
Aqua Card

Aqua Card

Aqua Card 3D animated TV advertisement TV ad production required We were approached by London marketing agency WPN chameleon with an exciting opportunity to work with them on a new advertising campaign for Aqua Card. They wanted a 30 second animated TV commercial that would be broadcast nationwide during daytime television. Hooking them in! Our main goal for this project was to help Aqua stand out in a competitive marketplace and so it was decided that a great way to achieve that was to use a quirky and retro inspired video game theme. With a 3D cartoon style and engaging narrative we would be able to grab the audience’s attention and deliver the message in an entertaining way. Feeling the frustration We felt that a fast and jerky pace would give our work the classic computer game quality we wanted. It also suited the hook animation, giving it a style that is reminiscent of fairground crane machines. This really helped to drive home the selling points within the ad. Balancing the scales During production we found that one of the trickiest things was achieving a delicate balance between realism and cartoon. We needed to create a genuine depiction of the Aqua Card itself whilst using a more stylised cartoony approach on other elements of the animation. It was critical that everything sat together well in the same environment too so we had a lot of balancing to do. Murky waters It was essential that the background water had a natural look that represented the depth of the sea, which we found was quite hard to achieve. We went through...
Duracell Professional

Duracell Professional

Duracell Professional Mixed media corporate video Rebranding the Duracell bunny Duracell approached us with an exciting opportunity to help them develop a new ‘vision’ video to showcase their new products and tie in with the launch of the Duracell Professional brand. Because the products are for the B2B market we needed to make sure the bunny was a little bit more serious and professional to how we see him on consumer TV ads. Planning the campaign The idea behind the campaign was to show how the batteries could be used in real life scenarios, incorporating live action footage and CGI. We needed to create a storyboard with an in depth plan for each shot in order for us to be able to organise the live action shoot and begin animation on the detailed elements that would be needed. A CGI update The more sophisticated audience meant that the iconic Duracell bunny would need to be tweaked slightly. The existing Duracell Professional bunny was essentially a real life teddy bear with some photoshop retouching, which made animation difficult. Computer generated fur Once everyone was happy with our vision for the Duracell Professional bunny we were able to begin modelling him in 3D. The hardest part of this process was to create the CGI fur. The look and behaviour of fur is notoriously hard to simulate and we needed to create thousands of hairs individually for a truly realistic look. We achieved the fluffy look with the help of  Yeti, fur generation software, which allowed us to create more realism and detail. Mixing CGI with reality The CGI items we would be creating needed...
