TMP Worldwide – AABot Drop AR App Hello, how can I help? TMP Worldwide approached us with an exciting project that would result in a unique augmented reality app. They wanted us to develop their existing AA robot character, Bot, who was the face of the AA careers website, helping answer people’s questions via a chat window. He had a limited facial range and a few personality variations when TMP Worldwide first came to us. Our brief was split into three stages. First of all we were to take what existed, a 2D vector style head, and create a full 3D robot with a body and more facial expressions. The next stage was to then create 11 animations featuring Bot in various scenarios and environments. The final stage was to create an app that would allow the animations to be access via AR. The unique part of this app would be the ability to share videos and images from the app via social media and the plan was for this feature to be utilised for a competition the AA would run. Character design It was a lot of work, but work we were thrilled to take on. The first step was to take Bot who was a simple 2D vector head and transform him into a 3D character with a body. Vinyl toys were the reference we used for Bot’s body and informed the animation style to come. We started with a cute body that was based on a panda toy, a glass style monitor for the head that was curved on both the front and back. We worked...

Highland Spring 360 VR experience Aerial 360 video required Stirling based marketing agency, Denvir got in touch with us with a special request, to create an exciting immersive 360 video experience for Highland Spring that could be played on google cardboard compatible VR devices for an upcoming marketing event as part of the ‘Brave by nature’ TV Campaign The Ochil hills The idea was to give the audience an experience of flying over the highland spring estate in the ochil hills region of Scotland, mirroring the journey the Highland Spring water would take from the sky and down the hills. The people experiencing the video were expected to be mainly kids and fun loving adults so it needed to be a thrilling ride. Droning on Originally it was proposed that we could film from a paraglider but recent advances in technology meant that a filming from a drone would make the logistics much easier and would offer up many more creative possibilities to tell the story in different ways from a greater range of vantage points and locations. On ya bike! Because of the short deadline and the multiple inaccessible locations we decided to pick a lightweight camera and drone combination that could be carried in a specialised drone rucksack by mountain bike. This allowed us to cover many miles of hills each day. 3D printed all terrain rig To use a lightweight phantom drone we would need a super lightweight 360 camera, we chose the Samsung gear 360 camera which weighs only 200g and we mounted it to the drone using some custom made 3D printed parts. Virtually in...

Cute Augmented Reality pet required Sony London approached us to create many costumes for their augmented reality Playstation game for kids and families, Eyepet. This game allows the player to interact with a virtual pet in many games and activities and utilises augmented reality to make the pet appear to be in your own home. Walk-in wardrobe When it came to modelling the costumes, the main concern was creating a style that highlighted the cute nature of the character. This included exaggerated button sizes, big stitches etc. We referenced many animation studios and style to achieve our costumes look, such as Pixar, Disney and the Japanese super deformed style, known as Chibi (ちび) in Japanese. Japanese Art Director Masami Kochi worked with us on this project and her guidance in the Chibi style helped us create our cute costumes. The costumes we created covered many themes that kids would enjoy including cowboy, pirate, princess, robot and many more. Good boy! Sony were delighted with our costumes and we created over 30 outfits in the end. This project marked our first foray into augmented reality way back in 2009. Augmented reality has developed by leaps and bounds in the last decade and Bigman are very proud to have been involved in the early stages with Sony Eyepet, a game ahead of it’s time. mCommerce Financial services explainer video CGI advertisement We were approached to help promote a new B2B business mobile app. As well as live action, our client wanted CGI to help explain the concept of the app. An engaging concept The film would show a typical banking customer in their home using the app, demonstrating its features and benefits in a real life situation. We would then need to combine footage of the phone with a high-end 3D animation of a fashion boutique coming out of the screen. We refined these ideas by developing the script into a highly detailed storyboard. Pre-visualisation The complex relationship between the live-action footage and the CGI elements meant that it was critical we locked down all the camera angles and movements before production began and so we created a pre-visualisation to help us with this. Pre-vis allowed us to tweak any aspects of the cinematography, such as lighting design and equipment choices, before any work began and gave us a great feel for how the final video would look. When it came to shooting the video we were able to use the pre-vis as a strict guide, which made the shoot day run very smoothly. Dummy modelmaking A large portion of the project would be done digitally in post production, and it was important to consider this on the day of the shoot. To help us visualise where our CGI elements would be, we created a cardboard version of the shop to act as a placeholder. This really helped us to perfectly frame and set the focus of the shots as if our digital...
